Bacharach Smoke Test Kit. Used to determine the amount of soot in the flue gases. Excessive smoke is evidence of incomplete combustion. Incomplete combustion can result in a fuel waste of up to 15%. Excessive smoke also results in soot buidup on the heat exchanger and other heat-absoring areas of the furnace. Soot is an insulator. A 1/16 inch layer of soot can cause a 4.5% increase in fuel consumption.
Excessive smoke can be caused by
• Improper fan collar setting (burner air adjustment) • Improper draft adjustment • Poor fuel supply • Oil pump not functioning properly • nozzle defective or of incorrect type • excessive air leaks in furnace (air diluted flame) • Improper fuel-air ratio • firebox defective • improper burner air-handling parts |
